GRC balusters

Balusters are the turned posts of a balustrade. Cast in GRC, each one is identical and finished, with no steel inside to rust and burst the concrete, which is what usually breaks old cement balusters near the coast.

  • Single vase

    The classic baluster, slim at the top and full at the bottom.

  • Double vase

    Two bulbs meeting at a centre collar. Symmetrical and formal.

  • Square baluster

    A tapered square shaft with a recessed panel, for modern elevations.

  • Slim turned

    A lighter profile with fine rings, for narrow balconies and staircases.

How balusters are made and fixed

  1. Profile

    We match one of our moulds to your profile, or make a new mould from your drawing or sample.

  2. Casting

    Balusters are cast in multi-part moulds, demoulded and finished.

  3. Curing in batches

    They are cured and stacked by batch, so a whole job matches.

  4. Fixing

    On site, they are set on dowels between the base and the handrail at even spacing.

Questions about GRC balusters

Can you match my existing balusters?

Usually. Send a photo with the height marked, or bring or courier one baluster. We check whether an existing mould matches or make a new one.

Are GRC balusters strong enough for a balcony?

Balusters are fixed between a base and a handrail with dowels. The balustrade is detailed for the building, and the handrail and posts provide the stiffness.

How many balusters do I need per metre?

It depends on the profile's width and the gap you want. We work it out with the balustrade drawing.

Do you supply a few balusters for repairs?

Yes, if we have a matching mould. For a new profile, the mould is the main cost.
