GRC minarets and towers
A minaret is tall, slender and exposed to wind, which makes it hard to build in solid masonry and slow to build in RCC. In GRC it is cast as hollow sections that stack over a steel or RCC core, with the galleries, brackets and chhatri cast as separate pieces.
GRC minarets at a glance
- Sizes
- Height and diameter from your design, cast as stacked sections sized for lifting.
- Shaft
- Round, octagonal, square or fluted; straight or tapering.
- Top
- A chhatri with posts and a cupola, a plain cupola, and a crescent or kalash finial.
- Fixing
- Hollow sections fixed around a steel or RCC core designed by your structural engineer.
- Priced by
- Per minaret, by height, detail and number of galleries.
- To quote, send us
- Height, base size, number of galleries, the top you want, and photos of any minaret to match.
The result is far lighter than masonry, has no exposed steel, and keeps sharp detail all the way to the finial.
Minarets in Chennai and Tamil Nadu
- Mosques across Chennai and Tamil Nadu use GRC minarets for new construction and for adding towers to an existing building.
- Corner towers with small domes are part of the city's Indo-Saracenic tradition and appear on new schools, colleges, hotels and wedding halls built in that style.
Minaret styles we make
Four of the styles we cast most. Every one is made to your size, and the pattern or profile can be changed to your drawing.
-
Octagonal minaret
A faceted shaft with two corbelled galleries and a chhatri on top.
-
Slender round minaret
A tapering round shaft with a single gallery and an onion cap.
-
Corner tower
A square tower with recessed panels and a chhatri: the Indo-Saracenic corner of halls and colleges.
-
Gallery and chhatri
The top of a minaret up close: corbels, balcony railing, posts and cupola, each cast separately.
How minarets are made and fixed
-
Design with your engineer
Your structural engineer designs the core; we draw the GRC sections and fixings around it.
-
Section moulds
Moulds are made for the shaft sections, gallery rings, corbels and chhatri.
-
Casting
Shaft sections are cast hollow with fixings for the core; gallery and chhatri pieces separately.
-
Stacking on site
Sections are lifted and fixed around the core one by one, with galleries fitted at their levels.
-
Top and joints
The chhatri and finial go on, and every joint is filled, sealed and finished.
Questions about GRC minarets
What holds a GRC minaret up?
A steel or RCC core designed by your structural engineer. The GRC sections are the finished outer shell, fixed to that core.
Can you match an existing minaret?
Yes. Send photos and the key dimensions, or we can measure on site for larger jobs. We draw the profile for approval before making moulds.
Can minarets be added to an existing mosque?
Often, yes. The core and its foundation are designed by your engineer, and GRC keeps the added weight low.
Do minarets need lightning protection?
Tall structures usually do. Your electrical consultant specifies it; if we know the conductor route in advance, we can allow for it in the sections.
