Chennai is hard on buildings. These are the three things GRC handles better than the usual alternatives, and how we detail it for the city.
Salt carried on the sea breeze settles on every building near the coast. In ordinary concrete it reaches the steel bars, which rust, swell and crack the surface. GRC is reinforced with alkali-resistant glass fibre instead, so there is no steel inside to rust. Near the sea, we fix it with stainless steel.
Most of Chennai's rain comes with the northeast monsoon, from October to December. POP softens when it gets wet and hand-run cement mouldings crack. GRC is a dense, cement-based material made for outdoor use, and we cast drip edges into cornices and sills so water falls clear of the wall.
A jali on a west-facing wall breaks the afternoon sun into small patches of light while air keeps moving through. Move the sun to see the light travel across the floor.

POP is for interiors and fails outdoors in the rain. Cement mouldings run on site depend on the mason and tend to crack. Stone is heavy and slow to source and carve. GRC is light, cast to an exact profile, and made for outdoor use.
It depends on the element, its size, detail and finish, the quantity, and whether we install. Jali and cladding are usually priced per square foot, mouldings per running foot, and columns, domes and ornaments per piece. Delivery to Chennai is included in the quotation.
